Kudos to Angela Hoover and the Girl Scouts on doing a National S’mores Day (the recipe for s’mores is in a 1927 Girl Scout handbook) after school Friday at Lydgate Beach Park, where the king tides were having a field day with Morgan’s Ponds. Willow Spalding lost little time getting creative with the chocolate (everyone’s favorite!) graham crackers (and where are those lilikoi royal cremes from Diamond Bakery?) and the innovative “campfire.”
There is still time to catch Jim Jung to hear his personal connection to the Hiroshima bombing and Sadako Sasaki, a 12-year-old who became known around the world after perishing from leukemia that she developed as a result of the atomic bomb. He starts at 9 a.m. today at the Kapaa Hongwanji Mission (kudos to the Rev. Mieko Majima for leading the short o-bon service at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital bon dance before adjourning to take care of the Japan exchange students).
