The wall won’t work
I can’t help but wonder whether people realize that the wall being proposed to keep the flow of immigrants from entering illegally into the USA from south of the border is an exercise in futility and a waste of money.
It will simply provide the means by which covert attempts will proliferate. As people say, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way!”

A little respect would be nice
It is time that we need everyone to start acting like mature adults and show respect to others despite disagreement with their opinions or views. It does not matter if you are a liberal, moderate or conservative — you all have your right to opinions and views.
There was once a time in this country that Congress actually debated these views and opinions without degrading someone’s else’s opinion or view and this was done showing respect. The sooner we can return to this type of civility the better for the country.
No one in this country deserves the types of attacks we see from both liberals and conservatives. Our forefathers had very serious debates and disagreements without personal attacks.
Today Washington is so tainted with money that our elected officials are unwilling to roll up their sleeves and work to a 60-80 percent solution that leads this country forward. It is all about winning something over the other side rather than what is in the best interest of this country.
Just take a look at our financial position as a country that is so far in debt. We have seen major cities file for bankruptcy, states will soon follow and what happens when the U.S. federal government can no longer pay their bills? As a country we need to spend within our means and stop writing checks that even our grandchildren will be unable to pay.
Lets all stop and think back 30-40 years or better maybe 100 years and let those the lived then set the standard for how we should all behave today!

Recall that it was VP Dick Cheney that said “deficits don’t matter”. And depending on what the country does with the money it creates out of thin air, that is true. (The dollar is a fiat currency after all, not based on anything of intrinsic value like gold.)
But America spends that money on war, war and more war. Fighting an enemy that was created by our own CIA in the effort to extend the American Empire throughout the rest of the world. Much like the Empire in the Star Wars movies, that effort will always face opposition from the “Rebels”, people who think that the resources of their country belong to the citizens of that country. But America doesn’t like competition and so engages in kleptocracy, “What’s mine is mine, what’s your’s is mine.” There are so many examples of America doing this throughout history, it is impossible to know where to begin.
China, Russia, India and Pakistan have formed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is evolving into a military alliance as well as an economic alliance. These countries will no longer allow “the West” (America) to dictate to them terms of Trade. The new tariffs against them will only encourage greater cooperation between them.
So, you should ask yourself, who benefits from all these wars? Who is it that refuses to use the vast wealth of this country to build a 21st century infrastructure? Surely, you can answer that for yourself. Once you do, then perhaps you will recognize who most politicians work for. It certainly isn’t the “rest of us”. So, look at who is backing a given political candidate. Ask yourself if you like that Oligarch or not. Don’t be swayed by the constant barrage of phony political ads that speak in “glittering generalities” about what the Oligarch thinks will trick you into believing him.
Consider voting for the candidate who stands on the highway by himself/herself trying to contact you.
Good Luck.
Great letter Bruce! Jose, it’s so comforting to know how much smarter you are than the Border Patrol, ICE Agents on the front line, and the residents of the areas who are truly impacted by not having a wall! Oh but wait! A wall works in several other countries of the world including Israel, Mexico on it’s southern border, and scores of other countries, but hey! Jose knows best!
As it turns out, every parent, teacher, or camp counselor who hasn’t misplaced or completely lost the children in their care, is smarter than ICE.
That is a good point. On the Donald Trump ban on immigrants into the U.S.A. I think Donald is taking a stand on something. If one were to make another analogous, say on who those wishing to come into the U.S.A. and those who oppose them, it would be much in the same way of who is watching Albert Pujols reach a milestone in his career. Passing Ken Griffey jr at 630 mark homeruns. 3 more to go. About every kid in America is watching this, I suspect. They want to be like Albert Pujols and at 6’3″ tall when they grow up. I can assure you though, this height of Albert is still more than 181 cm. If you can picture this guy, you still good for to me. Not at six-foot three though.
Gordon, Bruce asks us to respect each others opinion. You laud that and then turn around and criticize Jose’s letter. Look up hypocricy it may be a lesson for you. Sad.
