HONOLULU — Kamehameha Schools is agreeing to pay $5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by families of four former students whose teacher allegedly secretly recorded them showering in his faculty apartment.
HONOLULU — Kamehameha Schools is agreeing to pay $5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by families of four former students whose teacher allegedly secretly recorded them showering in his faculty apartment.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Friday Gabriel Alisna is awaiting criminal trial in state court on felony violation of privacy charges involving three of the students and misdemeanor sexual assault charges involving one student.
The former speech teacher and debate team coach has pleaded not guilty.
The lawsuit claims that officials at the private school for students of Hawaiian ancestry should have known about Alisna’s action and taken steps to prevent it but didn’t. It faults officials for how they handled the matter after discovering it.
Kamehameha Schools Chief Executive Officer Jack Wong says resolution was the right thing to do.
