LIHUE — The Wailua Homesteads Park outdoor warning siren will be included in the statewide monthly siren test on Monday. Residents, businesses and visitors in the area will likely hear the siren during the 11:45 a.m. test.
The warning sirens are used to alert the public to emergencies. During this monthly test, all warning sirens will sound a one-minute, attention alert signal (steady tone).
The attention alert signal informs residents to turn on a radio or television for information and instruction for an impending emergency, or if in a coastal inundation area, to evacuate to higher ground.
The outdoor warning sirens are one part of a three-component emergency notification system.
“Mahalo to the public for your patience, as this siren is just one of the many ways residents, businesses and visitors can be prepared if a disaster occurs,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.
