Margaret W. ‘Maggie’ Abrams
Margaret W. “Maggie” Abrams, was born April 25, 1943, in Newberry, South Carolina, and died June 24, 2018 at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home, Omao. She moved to Kauai and resided in Wailua Homesteads with Phyllis Stoessel, her friend and caregiver until a second stroke hospitalized her.
She graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, North Carolina, and Northwestern University, Chicago. She taught high school and college in North Carolina and South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by father William Hugh Abrams, mother Margaret Culley Abrams, and brother William Hugh Abrams Jr.
She is survived by sister-in-law Beverly Cannon Abrams, and nieces and nephews.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held on Kauai at a later date.
Theresa Caroline ‘Ku‘uipo’ (Akau) Casil
Theresa Caroline “Ku‘uipo” (Akau) Casil, aka “Aunty Carol,” 66, of Kauai, died on May 25, 2018 at Wilcox Medical Center. Born on Oahu but raised a Kauai girl, she was a graduate of Kapaa High School and known around the world as the co-founder of reviving the Kauai Tahiti Fete.
She is survived by husband Wayne Casil, son “Ken Boy” (Rita) Casil, daughters Tasha Yandall, Apelila Yandall, Kristi (Garrett) Sekiya, Teihani Casil, Temana (Darryan) Duh, hanai son Wayne (Raylane) Inouye, siblings Larry (Katherine) Akau, Sapphire Winston, Healani Akau and Charles (Robyn) Akau III, 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous hanai children, other family members and countless friends around the world.
She was preceded in death by parents Charles Awana Akau Jr. and Dorothy Cardova (Lopez) Akau, sister Rene DelaCuesta, and husbands Teitu Kame‘enui and Kenneth Casil.
A celebration of life will be held at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue on Saturday, July 7, with visitation fromm 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and service and reflection to follow, with a grand celebration to honor her from 2 to 6 p.m. The family requests aloha or casual attire (no black attire please).
There will be a celebration of life in Kailua, Kona, on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Maka‘eo Pavilion by Old Kona Airport.
