Richard Medeiros
Richard Medeiros, 88, passed March 1, 2018. He was born on Sept. 20, 1929, in Eleele, Kauai, one of twelve children, Gabriel, Helen, Janie, Tony, Margaret, Richard, Paul, Alfred, Robert, Madeline, Mary Anne and Mary Jane, born to Gabriel and Emily Medeiros. He was the last of his siblings to remain.
Richard was a Korean War Veteran serving our country from 1949 to 1952, as part of the 5th Regimental Combat Team out of Schoffield Barracks. He married Marylene (Slim) from Kaumakani, then moved and made his career on the mainland as an iron worker.
Beloved husband, father of six, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Debora Ann. He is survived by his wife, Marylene; his children, Richard, Robert, Elizabeth, Kathleen and James. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life and Veteran’s Dedication will take place at Hanapepe Veteran’s Cemetery on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. No contributions please and aloha attire requested.
Richard Iuda Kealoha Kaulike ‘Pinao’ Kanahele
Richard Iuda Kealoha Kaulike “Pinao” Kanahele, 61 years old, of Kekaha, Kauai, passed away on May 18, 2018, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on Dec. 4, 1956, in Puuwai, Niihau, he was the lead Gardener for 39 years with the National Tropical Botanical Gardens.
He is preceded in death by his father, William K. Kanahele; mother, Martha M. Kaohelaulii Kanahele; sisters, Martha K. Kanahele Niau, Rebecca Kanahele Niau; brother, Lionel Kanahele.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Girod of Kekaha; Hanai daughter, Jaylynn K. Kanahele of Kekaha; brother, Ambrose (Iwa) Kanahele of Kekaha; brother-in-laws, Sonny A. Niau of Kekaha, Michael (Tina) Girod of Kekaha, Matthew (Luciana) Girod of Maryland; Hanai sister, H. Pualei Kaohelaulii of Kekaha and one uncle; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai at 10 a.m. A private scattering at sea will be held at a later date.

Betty Grace Bettencourt
Betty Grace Bettencourt, 94, of Reedley, California, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Born Sept. 10, 1923, in Saxton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Peter and Mae Williams.
She is predeceased by her husband, Harold Thomas Bettencourt; sisters, June Wyche and Dorothy Bolka.
She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Bettencourt and wife Joanie of Boerne, Texas and Gregory Bettencourt and wife, Susan of Pleasanton, California.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa, Kauai. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
Charles Leslie Linklater
Charles Leslie Linklater, 84, of Kalaheo, passed away on June 13, 2018, at his home. He was born in Crystal City, Manitoba Province of Canada on Aug. 20, 1933. He worked as a Structural Ironworker in the Local 625 Union.
Charles is preceded in death by Janine L. Linklater, mother of children.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Leona (Mohamed) Hassan and his son, Darrell (Crystal) Linklater; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
