Richard Medeiros
Richard Medeiros, 88, passed away March 1, 2018.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1929, in Eleele, one of 12 children, including siblings Gabriel, Helen, Janie, Tony, Margaret, Paul, Alfred, Robert, Madeline, Mary Anne and Mary Jane, born to Gabriel and Emily Medeiros. He was the last of his siblings to remain.
He was a Korean War veteran serving our country from 1949 to 1952 as part of the 5th Regimental Combat Team out of Schoffield Barracks. He married Marylene (Slim) from Kaumakani, then moved and made his career on the Mainland as an iron worker.
Beloved husband, father of six, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was preceded in death by his daughter Debora Ann.
He is survived by his wife Marylene, children Richard, Robert, Elizabeth, Kathleen and James, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life and veteran’s dedication will take place at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe on Wednesday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m.
The family requests aloha attire and that no contributions be offered.
Mary Ann Requilman
Mary Ann Requilman passed away at the age of 71 on June 10, 2018, at her home. She was born in Iowa on Oct. 30, 1947.
She was the retired executive director of the Kauai Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by parents George and Lenore (Smith) Geary and brother Mike Geary.
She is survived by husband Robert Requilman, son Michael Requilman, older brother Pat Geary of New Jersey, and younger sisters Julie Blaskovich of Washington and Betsy Proctor of Texas.
She and husband Robert moved from Seattle, to Oahu’s Westside in 1972. After watching the movie “Blue Hawaii” many times, she was determined to move to Kauai, which she, Bob and son Michael did in 1988. She began working at the Kauai Historical Society that was located at the Coco Palms then, and she continued as administrative assistant, then executive director. She supervised the society’s collections, events and publications as well as its expansion into the Historic County Building until her retirement. She obtained grant funding that supported staff for cataloging, video production, books and public lectures.
Her family hopes that those who knew her will remember her as a great wife, loving mother, sister, auntie and friend.
Former staff, volunteers and members of the Kauai Historical Society will recall the enjoyable pa‘ina, field trips and lectures that she arranged.
Ann Nobue Matsuoka
Ann Nobue Matsuoka, 95, passed away on May 6, 2018, in Lihue.
Born on June 23, 1922, in Eleele, she was a seamstress.
She is survived by son Tom (Cynthia) Matsuoka of Lihue, daughter May Ann (Roy) Takekawa of California, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
