Ukulele lovers, listen up.
And if you’re not an ukulele lover, listen up anyway, because you don’t want to miss this one.
Cynthia Lin is coming to Kauai for a show on Sunday at Ha Coffee Bar on Rice Street as part of Cynthia’s Nationwide Tour.
As a singer-songwriter, Cynthia has released six album recordings independently and performs regularly solo, with a jazz combo, and with her acclaimed Bay Area band, Cynthia Lin and the Blue Moon All Stars. She encourages everyone to follow their passion.
The ukulele diva, teacher and YouTube star, Lin hosts one of the top five most popular ukulele channels on YouTube. She is well known especially in Hawaii. With over 20 million views on her YouTube channel, she shares ukulele tutorials in her approachable teaching style. Sunday she will be playing a concert and will also engage the audience with an interactive jam session.
All are invited to bring a ukulele and strum along.
The event will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and is $10 at the door.
Featuring her album “Ukulele Days,” the tour will combine concert and festival performances with fan “meet and greets” plus ukulele workshops and jam sessions. Ukulele Days is being made available for the first time on vinyl and CD in addition to digital download.
Beginning in Reno, Nevada, the tour has passed through Old Town Lansing, Michigan; New York, New York; and will soon be on Kauai before heading to Honolulu (June 23) and San Francisco (July 14).
“There’s a palpable electricity in the room when ukulele players come together to sing and make music. During this tour, I am especially excited to visit communities that I don’t often have the opportunity to engage with in person,” said Cynthia Lin.
Since 2013, Cynthia Lin has shared free ukulele tutorials and arrangements on YouTube in order to spread the joy of ukulele and help people grasp the basics of the instrument with her approachable teaching style. Her YouTube channel has been viewed over 20 million times and she has more than 189,000 subscribers. She is supported by over 1800 patrons on Patreon, leads the San Francisco Uke Jam community and founded the first San Francisco Uke-tober Festival.
Ukulele Days was originally released in July after Cynthia participated in #The100DayProject with the goal of playing a ukulele song and recording a video for YouTube every day for 100 days.
The album is a collection of fan favorites from her #100DaysofUkuleleSongs project and includes classic songs such as La Vie En Rose, Hawaiian and jazz standards, as well as hits from the Beatles and Beyoncé. Ukulele Days hit #13 on the World Billboard Charts and #15 on the Jazz Billboard Charts (alongside Diana Krall and Norah Jones) in its first week of sales.
“Like many creative projects, I didn’t know where the 100 Days of Ukulele Songs project would lead,” Lin said. “I loved hearing from my fans how surprised they were by the ukulele’s versatility across musical genres, and how the project changed their perceptions of ukulele and even inspired them to pick it up as their first instrument.”
