LIHUE — Aloha Dance Studio earned a number of awards when the group traveled to Oahu to participate in a JUMP national competition and workshop over the weekend, said Tiffany Dick, owner of the Aloha Dance Studio.
Noelani Garcia, ‘Aekai Hull and Caitlin Plowman each won scholarships to the “summer intensive” dance program in California. The three scholarship recipients are in the Mini company, whichtraveled with the Junior and Senior competition teams.
“The Minis took all the master class workshops and learned more about competing,” said Dick.
Garcia and Plowman earned awards for tap dancing while Hull earned his award for jazz, contemporary and lyrical.
After a day of workshops, the Aloha Dance groups earned two Gold awards and two High Silver awards in the competitions.
“This was such an amazing experience for them,” Dick said. “The five-member Junior and seven-member Senior companies competed in tap, specialty flamenco, lyrical and contemporary category dances.”
Members of the Junior team are Asia Balbin, Aaliyah Nero, Jaysha Sila, Emma Terheggen-Hayes and Erin Teves.
The Senior team is Madison Allado-Racca, Khiani Garcia, Jezlene Rualizo, Kate Nakamura, Keisha Suga, Shalyn Vegas and Nikki Young.
Other Minis are Lillianna Burley, Malia Foster, Hailey Johnston, Emily Racpan, Paityn Sagisi and Lillianna Sunada.
Aloha Dance Studio will offer a summer workshop at Kukui Grove Center starting today.
