Cherylene Anita Delos Santos
Cherylene Anita Delos Santos, 71, of Lihue, passed away at home on April 13, 2018. She was born in Lihue on Aug. 28, 1946, and retired as a housekeeper with Mokihana of Kauai.
She was preceded in death by husband Jay Delos Santos, parents Paula Ballesteros and Larry Pascual, and brothers Lance Pascual and Leland Pascual.
She is survived by children James McNichols, Laura McNichols, Alvie Morris and Kammy Morris, father Larry Ballesteros, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brothers Dennis Pascual, Rudy Ballesteros, Lawrence Pascual, Charles Raco, Edwin Ramos, Howard Ramos and Merlyn Raco, stepmother Florence Pascual, sisters Mamo Keopuhiwa, Sharmaine Simao, Jerry Ebinger and Georgia Farthing, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 9, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will be held privately at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park.
Kauai Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Fred Patricio Jr.
Fred Patricio Jr., 49, of Kekaha and Honolulu, was born on July 13, 1968, in Waimea, and passed away on May 17, 2018, on Oahu. He was a veteran of the the U.S. Army and a dedicated soccer coach, and was locally known as the “uber-driver hiker” and “Spider-Man Hawaii.”
A loving father and devoted grandfather, he is survived by daughter Jaylicia-Jinei (Brennan) Patricio-
Young and grandchildren Titus-Po‘okela Young and Tayli Pola‘i Patricio-Young. He is also survived by parents Fred and Julita Patricio of Kekaha, and siblings Darlene (Lyle) Muraoka, Charlene (Tony) Lazaro and Chris Patricio, all of Kauai, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunties, uncles and close friends.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Faustino (Pat) Patricio, Rose Pagala and Jose Pagala, and maternal grandparents Mary M. Rodrigues and Julio Taboniar.
Funeral services were held in Honolulu on Saturday, June 2, at the Nuuanu Mortuary. Funeral services will also be held on Kauai at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha on Monday, June 11, with visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Mass to start at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be on Wednesday, June 13, at 9 a.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Scattering of ashes will be done at a later time.
The family suggests casual attire.
Dante Julian Samiano
Dante Julian Samiano, 78, of Lihue, passed away on May 28, 2018, at Wilcox Medical Center.
Born on June 22, 1939, in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by wife Presenticion P. Samiano, father Jose Samiano, mother Salud Julian, and granddaughter Krystle Felten.
He is survived by son Michael (Atsumi) Samiano of California, daughter Laurie Samiano of California, grandchildren Suzanna Gunn, Victoria England, Gianna Zurita, Kazumi Samiano, Yosuke Samiano and Kyle Samiano, six great-grandchildren, brothers Jose (Virginia) Samiano of Nevada, Marcial (Emily) Samiano of Oahu, Rudy (Kathy) Samiano of Kauai and Melvin (Connie) Samiano of California, sisters Carmen (Richard) Ubasa of Oahu and Evelyn (Siling) Taroc of Kauai, hanai sister Celia Ramirez of Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 3, at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 to 9:45 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will be held at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Charlene ‘Char’ Landsman
Charlene “Char” Landsman (Savoca) passed away on May 17, 2018, on Kauai.
Born on Feb. 25, 1950, in Cleveland, during the “big snow,” she graduated from Richmond Heights High in 1968. After she received her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, she moved to San Francisco, where she pursued a career in the financial field, in which she excelled. She moved to Kauai in 2016.
She was the loving daughter of Gaetano (Tom) (deceased) and Connie Savoca (deceased), beloved sister to Connie Beringer and Charles Savoca, loving aunt to Thomas Beringer, Sarah and Rachael Savoca, and great-aunt to Brooklyn and Bryanna Beringer, and a devoted mother.
Those who knew her sensed her sharp wit and her deep sense of responsibility and accountability, and valued family above all else.
She was remembered by others for her sense of loyalty and humor and had an infectious laugh. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
