Congratulations to the five new Kauai Police Department officers (Kauai Police Explorers Brant Tanaka, Mandie Manuel and William Andres did a great job with Lance Okasaki — K-PAL flag football starts Saturday!) and kudos to Mark Ozaki and Sgt. Darla Nonaka on making these new officers feel right at home!
It was a good thing the Taiko Kauai ensemble (nice to see retired Kauai Interscholastic Federation Executive Secretary Diane Nitta and Ray Nitta, and Gerald Ida is retired, too?) has practice at the Kauai Veterans Center because the group provided a grand entry for the graduating recruit class.
More kudos to Eleele School on the blessing of the first hale (house) to be located on a school campus! The blessing was a fitting end to the school’s May Day program, and you could see the pride exuding from Aunty Janet Kahalekomo, who took time to enjoy the event before rushing off to finalize the student-made lei for Memorial Day.
OK, time to go up the hill and check out the banana poka (no, Ron Wood, it’s not a dance! It’s an invasive!).
Happy Memorial Day! Be safe!
