Kauai High School’s girls golf team shot a 249 (79-83-87) following the first day of the 2018 David S. Ishii Foundation Golf Championships girls state tournament on Tuesday.
Kauai High, representing the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, is in ninth place out of nine teams after the first round at the Turtle Bay Resort-Fazio Course on Oahu.
On the team leaderboard, Iolani of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu is in first place with 224 (72-75-77). Punahou of the ILH is second with 229 (73-76-80), and Mid-Pacific of the ILH is third with 234 (76-77-81).
Taryn Taguma was Kauai’s best golfer of the day, shooting a 79 (37-42). Tyra Oshiro shot an 83 (44-39), Jessica Hreljac shot an 87 (44-43) and Sabrina Murphy shot an 88 (44-44).
Competing as an individual, Kauai’s Keesha Brown shot an 88 (43-45).
On the individual leaderboard, Kamie Hamada of Iolani sits in first with a 72 (35-37). Four golfers are tied for second place with a 73 — Kayli Hartsock-Bunyan of Kailua (Oahu Interscholastic Association), Malia Nam of Kaiser (OIA), Reese Guzman of Maui (Maui Interscholastic League) and Claire Choi of Punahou (ILH).
The girls tournament concludes today, and the boys tournament will begin Thursday.
