KAPAA — Wednesday’s Kauai Interscholastic Federation varsity baseball championship game was postponed because of darkness.
The game between Kapaa and Kauai high schools will resume at 4 p.m. today at the Ron Martin Field at Kapaa High School.
The scored was tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the eighth inning at the time of suspension. When the game was called off, there was one out and Kapaa had runners on second and third bases with Warriors outfielder Trevor Kaui up to bat. Kauai’s Jacob Borrero was pitching for the Red Raiders.
Facing a 3-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh, Warriors second baseman Kade Kupihea hit an RBI single to centerfield to score Kaui from second base to give Kapaa (10-3 KIF, 6-0 2nd round, 0-1 playoff) the game-tying run.
Kapaa scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Warriors starting pitcher Noa Cardinez scored from third base on a Red Raiders balk, and designated hitter Dayim Souza-Yim hit a sacrifice fly to center field for an RBI.
With the score tied at 2-2, Kauai (8-5 KIF, 3-3 2nd round, 1-0 playoff) got a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning. Red Raiders outfielder Ethan Gray scored from second base as outfielder Blake Probasco reached first base on a Warriors error.
Kauai scored two runs in the top of the fourth. Red Raiders third baseman Keoua Sibayan hit a sacrifice fly to center field for an RBI, and starting pitcher Christian Manera hit an RBI double to center field.
