LIHUE — Island School dropped two sets by default to give Waimea a 5-0 win in the girls and a 3-2 edge to the Waimea boys Tuesday during a Kauai Interscholastic Federation tennis match that was rescheduled following a rainout Saturday at the Kauai Community College tennis courts.
LIHUE — Island School dropped two sets by default to give Waimea a 5-0 win in the girls and a 3-2 edge to the Waimea boys Tuesday during a Kauai Interscholastic Federation tennis match that was rescheduled following a rainout Saturday at the Kauai Community College tennis courts.
Facing a seeding meeting, play at the Timbers Kauai at Hokuala tennis courts went to pro scoring with Waimea’s Kari Correa taking an 8-0 win over Island School’s Hannah Whelan in the girls first singles. Waimea Leslie Uri took the girls second singles by default.
On the girls doubles court, Waimea’s Micah Guillermo and Kristine Ruiz were 8-5 winners over Voyagers Bonnie Lee and Emma Thaine for the girls first doubles. Waimea’s Julienne Gawaran teamed with Monique Joy Lorenzo for an 8-2 victory over Kalia Hamid and Gianna detrolio on the girls second doubles arena, and Menehune Carla Mae Satumba paired with Louisa Tanigawa for an 8-5 edge over Island School’s Paulina Do and Alexa Lauren on the girls third doubles concrete.
Island School boys got off to a strong start when Sasha Rovinsky defeated Waimea’s Limar Medina, 8-5 on the boys first singles court, and Voyager duo Adrian Meier and Jon Englehard took an 8-2 win over Waimea’s Bryan Ingeniero and Breicen Medina on the boys first doubles court.
But the Voyagers defaulted on the boys second singles arena, giving the win to Waimea’s Edmelle Medina.
The Menehune followed that with a win on the boys second doubles court when Fred Ryl Adella and Christian Pablo downed the Voyager pair of Foster McLychok and Andrew Scalafani, 8-4. Waimea took the day’s advantage when Vittorio Altomare paired with Joshua Ochua for an 8-6 edge over Voyagers Max McLychok and Patrick McKenna on the boys third doubles floor.
No results were available for the Monday make up match between Kapaa and Kauai High School which were also contested at the Timbers Kauai at Hokuala after their original contest was rained out Saturday.
KIF tennis athletes take the court Thursday for the opening round of KIF qualifying tennis starting at 8 a.m. at both the Timbers Kauai at Hokuala, and the Kauai Community College tennis courts. Finals for the qualifying meets will play on Friday.
