William “Bill” Arakaki, the Kauai Complex Area superintendent, said Kauai is the only island that offers this program, and Jeannie and Arnold Meister (he’s one of our Living Treasures!) have been doing this for 16 years. Happy the Clown was on hand to enhance the balloon art offerings by Brenda Biehler, and the entertainment sparkled under the new stage lighting installed by David Sosner as part of the mall’s improvements.
Beau Acoba didn’t just represent Grove Farm who provided refreshments for all the entertainers and vendors, he also led the Tsunami Taiko ensemble after his soccer games were rained out, and Major Victor Aguilar had his Waimea High School JROTC color guard doing duty to open the event.
OK, this weekend, we got the Troy Barboza Torch Run which is featuring a torch lit by the volcano on the Big Island (the Troy Barboza runners already did their thing on Maui, last week) and transported to Kauai by the US Coast Guard where it opens the Special Olympics of Kauai track and field events Saturday.
And then, it’s off to the Science Olympiad for elementary school students at the Kauai Community College (check out the Kauai Community Market, too).
