Happy birthday to Lourdes Torres (she’s a cricket farmer!), who spent her day at the Night Market at Nukolii Tuesday, where she was talking with people from Jersey City about the benefits of crickets.

Kudos to Grant James of the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort for hosting the great event, which attracted not only visitors but residents — those heading to the Kauai Interscholastic Federation volleyball game and home — as well. Elvrine Chow (she made a birthday lei for Lourdes) and Jennifer Ortal had prime seating for their lei, and James said if the weather was better, everything would have been spread out over the area near the resort’s pool.
He said he’ll be doing the night market on the second Tuesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort.
Dr. Janet Berreman of the state Deparatment of Health Kauai District Health Office (even Lauren Guest came out to check the activity) said she forgot her Girl Scout pin Wednesday when the Girl Scouts from Troop 823 and the Wilcox after-school program (Troop 4353) came to plant blue pinwheels in observance of Child Abuse Prevention month.
Teresa Caires said the girls from Troop 823 will be planting pinwheels at the Villas at Puali on Saturday (the Kauai Independent Food Bank has its spring drive food collection Saturday too).
