Deven Kimoto parred the Poipu Bay Golf Club’s back nine en route to carding a 3-over 75 (39-36) Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf match No. 4.
The score was sufficient to lead the Kauai High School boys to a team 313 strokes, 54 strokes better than Island School whose team was led by Reece Valencia carding an 85 (41-44). The Red Raiders shuffled their team roster by adding Jaydon Kyono (42-38-80) and Riley Gokan (47-40-87) from the ranks of individualists.
On the girls’ course, Kauai High School was the sole team contender and was led by Taryn Taguma carding an 86 (44-42), five strokes ahead of Jessica Hreljac (45-46-91). Kapaa and Waimea high schools had insufficient numbers to compete in team play.
The victories keep Kauai teams undefeated in team play with two more matches remaining before state qualifying.
Top individualist in Poipu saw Kamden Nii finish with a 76 (39-37), one stroke off the pace set by Kimoto. Kanoa Nii, Kamden’s brother who finished last week with the Raiders’ top score, was tied with Kamden at the crossing but was victimized on the back nine.
Tyra Oshiro finished as the top girls individualist at 86 (42-44), tied for the lead with team leader Taguma.
KIF golfers next take to the Wailua Golf Course on Saturday when the first group tees off at noon.
