Marc Hubbard had pleaded guilty to wire fraud, saying he lied about his ability to produce Stevie Wonder for a fundraiser concert.
U.S. District Judge Leslie Kobayashi on Friday ordered that Hubbard’s sentence start after he’s done serving more than six years for a similar Pennsylvania case.
The sentence is unexpected because a deal with prosecutors called for his sentence to run concurrently with the Pennsylvania prison term.
Defense attorney William Harrison says Hubbard will appeal.
The university paid a $200,000 deposit in 2012 and began selling tickets before learning that neither Wonder nor his representatives authorized a show.
Kobayashi says the scam hurt the university’s morale.
