Machines will not speed up process
TGI story, “Solutions sought to long lines at motor vehicle registration,” on Saturday, March 24. In this story it suggest that they add a kiosk or computers for us to use to do our vehicle registration Councilwoman JoAnn Yukimura also suggests a kiosk put in somewhere on the Westside of the island as well as on the Eastside.
These (mentioned above) are ridiculous suggestions. Even if they follow through with those machine in the DMV building only. Already per the story, “with the new registration machine it is a little slower than the older registration machine.”
To add salt to the wound, “many people (myself included) don’t know how to use a kiosk and computer.”
Why not move the two offices across the way of the DMV Office to where the soon to be old Lihue post office is located? Those offices are hardly or never busy and the personnel is just standing around watching people go in and out of the DMV and driver’s license area.
Don’t know about anyone else. Me, “I would rather interact with a real person than a machine.”
Machines will only slow down long lines!

Aloha Howard, for those aLready Akamai on the computer let them have vehicle registration at the kiosks and in Kapaa could it be at the Kapa’a Neighborhood Center, or Armory, or Library…plenty parking too.
Those who prefer people to people can go still to the DMV.
EVERY CAR REGISTERED ON East and South/West sides will save gas, traffic, and time,
Pay by ATM CARDS.
Mahalo,
Charlie
I agree with you, “it will be a lot easier for those already akami. it will also, save time and gas.” However remember when you use your credit / debit cards to pay. You are giving cyber thieves your personal info on yourself and credit/ debit cards accounts.
I agree… Just another dum idea we do not need to spend $$$ on….
Donald, in case you missed the public testimony, these kiosks will not cost the county any money. They are included in the contract negotiated by the state and paid for by the existing fees.
The Kauai DMV used to be quick and pleasant. Now there are long lines and frustrating waits. In my 2 recent experiences the windows did not open until 15 minutes after the posted opening time and when they did, of the 4 clerks behind the windows, only one was servicing customers. I have no idea what the other 3 were doing except looking at computer screens. Small wonder why long waits with the type of service.
I agree with Charlie, I live part time on Oahu and have had to register a vehicle on Oahu and seen lines out the door, Kauai is a breeze in comparison. When the Kiosk opened, the line was cut in half in a blink of an eye. Users range from the young to the much older generation and there was someone there to help, so that being said. I believe this to be a great program and look forward to it.
