LIHUE — Life’s Choices Kauai and other community organizations will host a Rotunda Rally on Monday to raise awareness about alcohol addiction, child abuse and neglect and sexual assault.
The event is open to the public, and attendees are asked to wear blue as a symbol of their support for this community effort.
The event will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Lihue Civic Center Mo‘ikeha Building rotunda in recognition of April being National Alcohol Awareness Month, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Proclamations will be read by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. to kick off the event.
“Alcohol abuse, sexual violence, and child abuse – these devastating issues affect all individuals, families and communities on Kauai,” Carvalho said in a press release.. “Each has its own complexities, and Kauai faces a continuing need to support community-based programs to ensure that families receive needed services.”
Prevention and treatment resources will be available at the rally, and light refreshments will be served. The event will close with a Pinwheel Garden Planting on the lawn of the Historic County Building at 1:30 p.m. in support of child abuse prevention.
“In the spirit of breaking down silos, we believe that we can make a difference in the lives of young children and their families by supporting each other,” said Theresa Koki, Life’s Choices Kauai coordinator. “Our community partners have committed to work collaboratively on the challenges faced by our families and to look for opportunities that affect change on the social conditions that bring about those challenges.”
