Aunty Janet Kahalekomo (yep, she was at the Anahola celebration with Penny Anakalea and her moopuna) had her next generation helping her with a variety of presentations ranging from coconut frond weaving, kalo and salt harvesting from Salt Pond.
Chelise Kahalekomo (remember when she was one of the moopuna at the Prince Kuhio commemoration at Prince Kuhio Park?) said this is the time when people stay mostly indoors to get ready for the next salt harvest, and play indoor sports like Kauai Interscholastic Federation volleyball (congrats to Coach Enoch A‘ana and the Kauai Red Raiders on the four-set win to break Waimea’s string of victories!).
We’re still waiting on word of the finals of the Pack 148 Cub Scouts (they’ve got the first female Cub Scout on the island) Pinewood Derby, the winners advancing to the island finals which will be contested during the Boy Scout Makaahiki (did you get your value tickets yet?), April 7 — right next to the Garden Fair hosted by the Kauai County Farm Bureau and its affiliated partners at Kauai Community College.
