LIHUE — Island School Reece Valencia found an eagle in the blustery winds at the Puakea Golf Course, Saturday, making his mark, early at the No. 2.
But the winds negated the big bird and Reece (38-47-85) finished the day leading the Voyager boys to a team 371 points, 40 points back of Kauai High School during the second match of Kauai Interscholastic Federation golf.
The Kauai High School boys and girls found their second consecutive win, the boys being led by Kamden Nii (41-41-82) who finished with a birdie, and Deven Kimoto (41-41-82) who carded a pair of birdies in the 18-hole round. The Red Raider men finished with a team 331 to stay ahead of Island School.
Kapaa’s team effort (404) was led by Kekoa Eisenhour (52-40-92), and Luke De La Pena (50-43-93) topped Waimea’s team effort that finished at 427.
Tyra Oshiro (46-41-87) finished the day five strokes ahead of teammate Taryn Taguma (47-45-92), last week’s top girls individualist, to lead the Kauai High School girls to a team 295.
The KIF golfers next tee off on March 31 at the Timbers Kauai at Hokuala golf course.
