WAINIHA — Debris is still covering Kuhio Highway on the North Shore, and the Hawaii State Department of Transportation won’t be able to start clearing the road until highway re-opens at the Hanalei Bridge.
The National Weather Service has canceled today’s flash flood warning for the island of Kauai.
Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge was reopened to one lane of alternating traffic about 12:45 p.m. Due to the reopening of the highway, the American Red Cross shelter at Hanalei Elementary School closed about 1 p.m.
The state Department of Transportation reports that the landslide in Wainiha, near mile marker 6, was cleared and the road was opened at approximately 12 p.m.
I guess we were there and got out of town at the right time!
