LIHUE — The jury trial of a Waimea man charged with four counts including second-degree murder in the 2016 death of a Kekaha man is scheduled to begin today.
“We remain focused on achieving justice for the friends and family of Jon Togioka and for the community,” said Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar.
On the morning of Nov. 1, 2016, police say a bystander found the body of Togioka along the shoreline near the Port Allen Airport, with multiple gunshot wounds. Two days later, his death was ruled a homicide.
Koma Texeira was arrested and charged Nov. 4, 2016. His accomplice, Clayton Kona, was arrested and charged the day before.
In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Texeira is facing one count of carrying a firearm in commission of a separate felony, two counts of ownership or possession prohibited by a felon, and one count of place to keep pistol or revolver.
Texeira was 20 at the time; Kona was 38.
Kona was found guilty on Sept. 21, 2017, on one charge of hindering prosecution, first-degree murder, and one charge of ownership or possession prohibited by a felon. His sentencing is scheduled for May 1.
