POIPU — A newly improved playground at Poipu Beach Park was discovered vandalized by members of the public on Tuesday.
Part of a $670,000 project by the county Department of Parks &Recreation to upgrade its heavily used park facilities, the playground had incurred damage to its Boingo drum panel after vandals cut the panel’s cables.
“It is disturbing and disheartening that anyone would vandalize something for the keiki and their families,” said Lenny Rapozo, department director.
“We are hoping that the community comes together and we can all help to curb this nonsensical activity.”
Improvements to Po‘ipu Beach Park — which included replacing fixtures in the main comfort station and improvements to the pavilions, playground, and showers – were completed in the latter half of February.
To report suspicious activity, call the Kauai Police Department, 241-1711.
