HANAMAULU — Despite storm warnings and heavy skies, the Kauai Senior Softball League got another weekend of ball in the books with a pair of triple headers at the Peter Rayno Softball Arena and the Eleele Senior Softball Stadium.
Both the Rookies and the Keonimana Gents remain on a collision course with undefeated records.
The Islanders welcomed games at their home park in Hanamaulu, opening the day against the Rookies. The Islanders put up five on the scoreboard to open the game and started to rock the Rookies. The Westside lineup kept manufacturing runs to take the lead. They held off the last inning challenge for a 14-9 victory and their seventh win of the year.
The Aloha Kia Lihue A’s and Ohana got locked up in a run-scoring slugfest. Gusty winds and slick outfield grass helped to pile up the runs with the A’s pulling away for a 14-9 win. The A’s win brings them even with Ohana at a couple games out of first place.
In the finale at the Peter Rayno Arena, the Ohana Motors Rebels clobbered Kawaihau, 21-1. The Rebels were aided by nine extra base hits in the game to improve their record to 6-1 just off the league pace.
At the Eleele Softball Stadium, West Kauai hosted three games with an encounter with the East Kauai Legends. It is rare that West Kauai gets a game in their home stadium and used their home field advantage to hammer out a 10-6 win over the Legends.
The Keonimana Gents continue to steam roll their way through the competition. The league-defending champions took Barteks apart, 14-5. The Gents have yet to be challenged in racking up their sixth consecutive win.
The day wrapped up with a another rip roaring game by Da Kruzers, who along with the Hanamaulu Hillsiders, traveled out west for a big game. The Hillsiders and Kruzers got into an even match. The Hillsiders collected a 12-8 victory.
Six more games are slated for this weekend with the sites set at Kaumakani’s Sonoda Ballpark and in the garden confines of the Wailua Houselots Park. Scheduled in that little gem of a park in Kaumakani the Rookies will start the day with Kuku’s Aces. The Rebels will have their hands full with the Aloha Kia Lihue A’s, and the Islanders will tangle with West Kauai.
On the Eastside, Kawaihau and Barteks have an early date to open the day. The mid-game will feature the East Kauai Legends and Da Kruzers, and the three-game day will end with the Gents up against the Hillsiders.
The games are scheduled for 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
