LIHUE — With one away in the fourth inning, Kapaa’s Krisshan Lopez hit into a three-run homer, her second, to fuel the Junior Varsity Warriors to an 11-5 win over Kauai High School at Isenberg Park on Monday.
Lopez led the Warrior bats who pulled in seven hits, the infielder coming up with two home runs and four Runs Batted In. Kayana Maghanoy picked up a home run in the first frame and followed it with a double in the second inning for an RBI.
Shaylin Rivera picked up Kapaa’s fourth home run of the match for two RBI in the second inning.
Ini Marshall picked up the win on the mound, throwing a full game with five hits allowed, walking four and striking out two batters.
Dreanalyn Tafiti, opening on first base before relieving Cody Lagazo on the mound, topped the Kauai hitting with an RBI on a double and a single. Keiley Albarado-Planas finished with two singles and Alissa-May Kaneakua nailed a single in the final frame.
Kapaa coach Francis Takasaki said the win gave Kapaa a 3-0 record heading into the nightcap of the Monday outing. No scores were available at press deadline time for that matchup.
He said Kapaa started the season with 12 players, but lost four players due to circumstances beyond his control. That forced him to move up his two player managers, both eighth-grade students, to fill in the vacant positions. This resulted in Kapaa having to play exhibition games.
