I am responding to the letter (TGI Feb. 13): “An independent Hawaii would be safe.”
The writer proposes that the best way to keep Hawaii safe is to realize we cannot rely on “the American war mongers.” Instead, the “single way … to ensure there will be no nuclear war in Hawaii is to demand independence and for the United States military to cease its illegal occupation …”
The writer then contradicts his position by stating that the independent country of Hawaii “can enter into peaceful diplomatic relations with the DPRK (North Korea)… China would be glad to supply us with weapons to ensure Hawaiian self-defense.”
I am certain that is true. It is also true they will “be GLAD” to take complete political control and turn the islands into a satellite of their countries. The communist track record is NOT one of compassion, kindness, equality, or peace. Why do you think so many risked their lives to escape over the Berlin Wall, why so many risk death to escape from North Korea which spends money on warmongering and starves its people?
For those who believe China, North Korea, Russia, or any other country would guarantee peace and independence for an independent Hawaiian Kingdom, I suggest researching what happens when those countries “help” weak ones: elimination of all rights (no constitution), a police state that executes dissidents, and a large movement of their populations into the weak states to dilute political power away from the weak state…imprisonment in your territory, no safe work conditions, no health care, no freedom of speech, no elections, etc., enforced slavery imposed by a police state.
If you are tempted to support the independent Hawaiian Kingdom, you must first research what would happen if China and Russia “help” the kingdom. They will take it over, eager to be thousands of miles closer to America and will destroy the Hawaiian Kingdom.
This issue needs a full, open, public discussion and research of history. It is a very dangerous game being played by naïve people ignorant of history who will destroy everything Hawaiian. Don’t ignore this issue. It is a real danger.
