HANALEI — Kauai artist Patrick Ching is hosting his seventh annual KAI Ocean Art Show at Tahiti Nui Luau Lounge and iTi Wine Bar in Hanalei.
You can meet the artist painting live at the luau lounge and see more of his work at the iTi Wine Bar from Feb. 5-28.
Many people actually get to paint on Ching’s originals and others watch on live streaming video as he works on them.
The show also raises money for its beneficiary, the Kilauea Point Natural History Association. The Kai show has been one of the largest donors to KPNHA since its first show in 2013.
The opening reception for the KAI show will coincide with a free community painting party from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 11. Several local artists will be there to provide art supplies and teach the public and inspire the creative spirit.
The final reception of the Kai show will be 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25.
Ching was a ranger at the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge on Kauai in the 80s and 90s. He also worked for extended periods on the remote atolls now known as Papahanaumokuakea. He is the author of several wildlife books including “The Hawaiian Monk Seal” and “Honu and Hina.”
Ching now teaches art internationally and has a TV show called “Painting In Paradise” on Spectrum OC16.
