LIHUE — Kauai’s Office of Economic Development announced last week that it will be providing funding of $432,701 to 29 projects or activities that support sustainable economic development for Kauai County.
LIHUE — Kauai’s Office of Economic Development announced last week that it will be providing funding of $432,701 to 29 projects or activities that support sustainable economic development for Kauai County.
“It is crucial that we support and fund these important sectors in our community,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “The grants that are being provided will create jobs, continue to diversify our economy and ensure our island’s future and well-being.”
Programs and projects supported by the funding include agriculture, tourism, film, workforce, emerging industry and community capacity building.
According to a news release from the County of Kauai, nine recipients in the agriculture sector were awarded $204,101. One recipient in the workforce sector was awarded $4,600, one recipient in the film sector was awarded $5,000. In the emerging industry, community capacity building and economic sector, seven recipients were awarded $111,500, while 11 recipients in the tourism sector were awarded a total of $107,500.
The Office of Economic Development is expecting to go through this process again in July, when public announcements for proposals will be made.
