Here are the guidelines for the Kinolau O Kanaloa poster contest:
• Students are encouraged to draw, paint or photograph a picture that illustrates a kinolau of Kanaloa for their submission.
• Any Kauai student from kindergarten through grade 12 attending a public or private school or schooled at home can submit one entry.
• Crayons, paint, pencil, magic marker, collage or other appropriate materials may be used for submissions.
• Posters should be on 8.5 inch by 11 inch or 11 inch by 17 inch paper.
• Posters will be judged by their appropriateness to the theme, artistic skill and creativity.
• All elements of the artwork (lines, paint, color, shapes, shading, highlights, etc.) must be the work of the student whose name appears on the back of the artwork.
• No tracing is allowed.
• All artwork must be original and not be copied from copyrighted sources without substantial creative changes. Renderings, paintings or published photographs that are deemed to be exact to another source will be disqualified.
• Information must be written legibly on the back of each submission with school name, student’s name and grade, teacher or parent’s name, teacher or parent’s phone number, and teacher or parent’s email address.
• Submit artwork by mail to Kinolau o Kanaloa, c/o Malia Nobrega-Olivera, PO Box 465, Hanapepe, HI 96716, or email a request to nobrega@hawaii.edu for the artwork to be picked up from your school office.
• Artwork created digitally may be entered as long as rules on originality and copyrighted sources are followed. Resolution must be at least 300 dpi at 8 x 10 inches. Pdf or jpeg files can be emailed to nobrega@hawaii.edu.
• All entries must be postmarked by the Feb. 6 deadline, or an email should be sent to nobrega@hawaii.edu by 4 p.m. to pick up the artwork from the school.
