LIHUE – County officials announced that household hazardous waste will be collected free of charge on Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14. Among the items that will be accepted are automotive products, lawn and garden products, household cleaners, oil-based paints, thinners and stains, fluorescent lights, and more.

Among the items that will be accepted are automotive products, lawn and garden products, household cleaners, oil-based paints, thinners and stains, fluorescent lights, and more.
The collections will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The public is advised that the North Shore and Lihue sites are in different locations than prior events.
• Anaina Hou Mini Golf and Gardens in Kilauea (where HI5 redemption takes place), 5-2723 Kuhio Highway, Saturday, Jan. 13;
• Kapaa Public Works Baseyard (across from the Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins), 4900 Kahau Road, Saturday, Jan. 13;
• Hanapepe Public Works Baseyard (adjacent to the Hanapepe transfer station), 4380 Lele Road, Sunday, Jan. 14; and
• Kauai Resource Center (in front of the Lihue refuse transfer station), 3460 Ahukini Road, Sunday, Jan. 14.
No commercial or farm waste will be accepted. Latex paint will not be accepted as it is not considered household hazardous waste.
