LIHUE — The state Department of Public Safety is looking for a few good men and women.
It recently announced open recruitment for adult corrections officers. There are two positions open on Kauai, said DPS Toni Schwartz. The salary for an entry level ACO is $4,048 per month.
Schwartz said the DPS holds recruitment for ACOs just a few times per year. There is a 1.6 percent turnover rate for ACOs on Kauai. Vacancies are mostly due to retirement.
There are 61 ACOs at the Kauai Community Correctional Center, according to Schwartz. There are 1,376 ACOs statewide, with a statewide turnover rate of about 6 percent.
Some of the job’s duties include reading reports, regulations and court orders; observing inmate activity, behavior and movement; seeing and recognizing inmates at a distance, observing areas around the yard and inmate activity from the watchtower.
Applicants must be 21, high school graduates, and have at least one year of experience in a position that worked effectively with people in following the instructions of a supervisor and giving or exchanging information, have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a drug test.
The application deadline is Friday.
