Mele Kalikimaka from Kauai!
Sitting on our porch in shorts, slippahs and tees,
We count waves rolling in and monk seals on the reef
As shearwaters and frigates suddenly dive,
their dinners they seek.
The tree glows gold and red, the hula maiden near angels,
As Bill’s toy train circles the snow-covered village,
Toy soldiers guard Santa who smiles in good cheer.
Echoes of Christmases past filled with laughter and joy,
Children, grandchildren, now a great-granddaughter needs toys.
We marvel at time speeding by as if rocket-propelled,
Wasn’t it yesterday we first learned to drive?
Now it is blood tests, CTs, MRIs, plus a drawer full of pills,
Our diet we watch, ice cream memories fading too fast.
Bill’s broken bones made three books come to life,
with more on the way, as
Judie counts sales and heads to the bank.
Thankful for each and every one of you, we count our blessings,
And wish you
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
