Six Contractors Association of Kauai member firms were honored for their contributions to the Kauai community during the CAK 60th anniversary celebration and meeting, Nov. 30 at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
The six member firms were recognized for their collective contributions and participation in the Kauai community, the construction industry and the CAK.
Sherman and Mia Shiraishi of Sherman Shiraishi, AAL, ALC, was presented the CAK Tetsuro “Rosy” Maeda Member of the Year honor by Maeda’s descendants, Gale Domingsel and Russell Maeda for their pro-bono work for the CAK and numerous not-for-profit organizations on the island.
CAK board authorized the awarding of a 60th anniversary President’s Award for Meritorious Service to Shioi Construction, represented by Conrad Murashige, who has been providing active service to the CAK for 49 consecutive years.
Recently, the Shioi family, in honoring their late patriarch, Kenneth Shioi, came up with up to $4,000 in annual scholarships for students attending the trades program at Kauai Community College, and a Kauai resident in post-high school studies. Application forms for these scholarships are available at the high school counselors after Jan. 2.
In addition to the scholarships, the Kenneth Shioi General Contractor of the Year award was presented to Jeff Fisher of Earthworks Pacific for its support of community organizations and the construction industry.
Kahala Knopp of Pacific Mirror and Glass, a new CAK member, was the recipient of the Hideo Tanaka sub contractor of the year honor for its active participation in the community, the construction industry, and CAK.
Support of the CAK safety training programs, the CAK Home Show, and the annual scholarship golf tournament earned Service Rentals &Supples the Wayne E. Ellis associate member of the year honor.
The Kauai Nursery &Landscaping monthly workshops on horticulture topics and issues as well as the firm’s contributions to a number of trade associations earned the Robert H. Rask Community Service award which was accepted by Jerry Nishek.
The Contractors Association of Kauai, also affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders, was established in 1957 as a trade association of licensed contractors, suppliers, and businesses affiliated with construction on Kauai.
