New this year, the Hale Uluwehi Kauai Fund announced it will provide a dollar-for-dollar match for donations of $100 or greater. It will match the total up to $5,000 and, if there’s great success, will consider adjusting that figure higher.
That’s great news for the hundreds of families that rely on the community-supported fund for gifts and groceries during the holidays. One of the people who could use a little help is Ali, who has had led a tough life and has struggled many times with her parents and living situations.
She has tried to do well in school but ended up dropping out. Still, she hasn’t given up and is planning to become a nurse. Ali has begun pursuing her GED, and hopes to get into a nursing program so she can have a career to help people and support herself.
Ali would like to get a bike so she can ride to classes and work. She also needs some school supplies and clothes.
There are others like her on Kauai who don’t have much money, any family, or even a stable place to live. The Garden Island/Zonta
Christmas Fund offers a way for people to help them.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766. For more information, call 822-4517. And remember, donations of at least $100 or more will be matched by the Hale Uluwehi Kauai Fund, so your gift is basically doubled.
