The Ruff Ryderz Baseball team, a program based in Kekaha but welcomes kids from around the island, recently participated in the USSSA Cranberry Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We had three teams — a 12-and-under, a 13-and-under, and a 14-and-under — all playing in the AA division,” said Jennifer Pimsaguan of the Ruff Ryderz Baseball Kauai.
The 12-and-under team finished first out of 14 teams in the age group, also taking first place in Best Scoring and Best Differential.
The 13-and-under team fell in the semifinals of their age group and finished the tournament in fourth place.
A loss in the championship game put the 14-and-under team in second place.
“We want to thank the entire community of Kauai for supporting us in our constant fundraising,” Pimsaguan said. “None of this would be possible without all of the amazing support.”
The Ruff Ryderz next head to Omaha, Nebraska in June of 2018 for the Slump Buster Tournament, which is held in conjunction with the College World Series.
The Ruff Ryderz’s older divisions, the 13-and-under and 14-and-under teams, will participate in an Under Armour Showcase on June 29 through July 3 in Los Angeles, California.
“This is significant for us because there will be college scouts and Major League Baseball scouts at the event,” Pimsaguan said. “We’re very excited to show off our amazing Kauai talent.”
