KAPAA — Kapaa High School will host its annual Goodwill Basketball Tournament beginning Thursday.
All four schools of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation — Kapaa, Kauai and Waimea high schools and Island School — will compete, said Kapaa High School varsity boys basketball head coach Kamahalo Kauhane.
The tournament will be in its 13th year running. Varsity and junior varsity contests are scheduled.
“It’s always just been a goodwill tournament. There’s never been any type of brackets, championship brackets and all that,” Kauhane said. “Because we have (a limited number) of teams that play in the league, we wanted to have teams play that we don’t normally play.”
Five schools from the Neighbor Islands will come to Kauai for the boys basketball tournament:
w University Laboratory School and Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama of the Interscholastic League of
Honolulu
w King Kekaulike High School and Kamehameha Schools-Maui of the Maui Interscholastic League
w Konawaena High School of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation
“We really wanted to get statewide representation for this tournament, and we’re pretty pleased with who’s committed to the tournament this year,” Kauhane said.
All games will be played at Bernice Hundley Gym at Kapaa High School.
Four games are scheduled Thursday and Friday starting at 4 p.m. Eight games are slated for Saturday beginning 8:30 a.m.
Tickets will be available at the door.
“I think everybody should come out and look at lots of quality basketball that’s coming into town,” Kauhane said.
