‘Angel of Kauai’ lights up the holidays
Thank you, Dennis Fujimoto, for the wonderful, deserving, informative article (TGI, Nov. 26) about Elizabeth Freeman and her Festival of Lights gift to Kauai each year!
In the spirit of Aunt Josie, Elizabeth single-handedly made it her life’s work on Kauai to give the island a special scene each year, enlisting the help of students, family and friends to make a special theme each year to be presented at Christmas time!
Elizabeth is an amazing woman who has endless enthusiasm and commitment to this project even though it has required countless hours of work and organization each year! For her, it is truly a labor of love!
I am thankful that everyone now knows the true story behind the Festival of Lights and the person who has persevered each year to give an amazing gift to Kauai because of her love for Aunt Josie and the special island that she loves so dearly!
I can remember visiting Elizabeth at her home and seeing the wonderful Christmas decorations she was making out of recycled trash, and hearing about her trips to Asia to discover more ingenious ways to make handmade ornaments from the bottle caps of Coke bottles, which was a theme she invented several years ago for the Festival of Lights.
Thanks for your wonderful article on the Angel of Kauai, Elizabeth Freeman.
