Bronson Tabios, sponsored by Frontbunch, HT Racing &HT Automotive, was named King of the Track following the Nov. 12 drag races presented by the Garden Isle Racing Association and the Garden Isle Junior Dragsters at the Mana track. The event was the final drag racing for the 2017 calendar at the Kauai Raceway Park.
Taylor Montemayor, sponsored byMatsuda Bros. Racing, GM Fabrication, Kaya Race Fuels, Altered Image and the Kuhio Auto Group, was named Princess of the Track.
Montemayor finished her year in fourth place in the Junior Dragster division, copping Best Reaction honors with a 0.028 reaction time at the year’s finale.
Ryant Sakamoto, sponsored by Rapozo’s Auto Body-Rich and Philip Rapozo, Brick Oven Pizza, Triple T Plumbing, PMS-Pauly’s Mobile Service, Diamond D Ranch, All Kauai Bail Bonds, Half-Scale Dragsters, and Bamboo Grill &Sushi, soared to the top of the Jr. Dragster division, ending the year as an Academic Excellence Award honoree.
Ryant was also a strong challenger to Devin Almarza who copped Closest to Dial In honors by running 7.901 Estimated Time to his 7.90 dial in. Ryant clocked an 8.905 ET on an 8.90 dial in.
Other Academic Excellence Award honorees include Danika Braun, Almarza, and Christopher Silva. Top honorees in the Academic Excellence include T’Ryane Sakamoto, Ryancie Sakamoto, and Sanoe Kaluahine who finished third, sponsored by Charles of Maui, Teddy and Kalani Tom, Dwayne Muffly and the Vierra family.
Silva, challenging Ryant for the top Junior Dragster spot, finished second in the Nov. 12 race, sponsored by RC Fabrication, 420 Air, Don Silva, Ekolu Valpoon, Keola and Janil Ke, Kauai Vehicle Service Center, and papa and mama.
Manny Lawrence ruled the Top Gun class over the efforts of Kelsie Iida-Vierra, and Justin Stoner took the Bike class over Matt Kaleiohi.
Lennox Camat topped the Super Pro ET division over Brian Dow, and Alma Koetje wore the crown of the Muscle V8 class over Isaac Carvalho.
Gary Saiki topped the Pro ET class over Don Silva, and Paul Medeiros ruled the Street class over Kaina
Rosare.
Mason Koetje was tops in the Sport Compact class over Bubby Saiki, sponsored by HDH Production and Pau Hana T.
Garden Isle Racing Association and the Garden Isle Jr. Dragsters Association start the next race in February to launch the 2018 calendar.
