The Honolulu Sharks and HiLyfe Basketball teams are joining Kauai youth basketball squads for the Kauai Lynx Veterans Day Weekend hoops tournament starting Friday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Honolulu Sharks and HiLyfe Basketball teams are joining Kauai youth basketball squads for the Kauai Lynx Veterans Day Weekend hoops tournament starting Friday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Presented by the Kauai Lynx basketball program, the tournament will feature four fifth and sixth grade teams, and five seventh and eighth grade teams. Pool play starts 1 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The 5/6th grade division will include the Ao‘ako Rebels coach by Jon Quinones, Dream Team with coach Luther Yam, the Kauai Lynx under coach Rich Colipano and Kaulupono with coach Pedro Saligumba.
Kaulupono with coach Bobby Kamakele, Kauai Lynx with coach Danilo Tutop Jr. and the Dream Team with coach Yam will also field 7/8th grade teams. The field will compete with the Honolulu Sharks coached by Grant Kidani and HiLyfe Basketball of Hilo coached by Donald Yamada.
The tournament will feature seven games rolling on the floor of the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, the final contest starting at 7 p.m.
There is no admission charge to view the competition. Play resumes with pool play continuing through the nine games Saturday starting 8:30 a.m. The final contest on Saturday starts at 4:30 p.m. to determine seedings for the two divisions.
Championship play starts at 8 a.m. on Sunday with the 5/6th grade title game tipping off at noon followed by the 7/8th grade championship play starting at 1 p.m.
