The University of Missouri’s Hayden Buckley fired an eagle on No. 18 to close with an 11-under-par 61 and grab the two-day lead at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational golf tournament being contested Monday at the Makai Golf Club.
Buckley soared through the humid Kona weather by adding a string of nine birdies to his eagle to finish with a two-day total of 127 (66-61).
Simon Zach of Louisville is in sole second place with a 129 (66-63) after also getting an eagle on No. 18. He also carded nine birdies, but a double bogey at No. 13 left him at 9-under with one more round remaining.
Zach got help from teammates Matthias Schmid, who finished tied for fourth after Monday’s 10-under 62, and Nicolas Platret, who is tied for 12th after an even-par 72 to keep Louisville in the lead in the team standings with a two-day 535 (266-269), five strokes ahead of Missouri, which ended the Monday round at 540 (270-270).
Cole Yoshida ended the day at even par 72 to lead the Hawaii B team to stay in 18th place at 593 (299-294).
Justin Arcano leads the Hawaii A team, finishing the day at a one-over 73 after double-bogeying the No. 4.
The Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational wraps up with the final round being contested today at the Makai Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
