LIHUE — The Kauai Police Department captured Kamoeli‘i Kolo on Saturday. The 35-year-old Anahola man escaped from Kauai Community Correctional Center on Wednesday.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., police received information that Kolo was sighted at the Hanapepe River crossing in Hanapepe Valley, according to a news release.
When officers responded to the scene, Kolo fled on foot.
During the pursuit it was discovered that Kolo was armed with knives in each hand. Officers deployed a Taser to assist in detaining him, and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Kolo was taken to Wilcox Medical Center for medical clearance before he was booked at the Lihue KPD headquarters cellblock, where he will remain until he is transferred back to the custody of the state Department of Public Safety.
KCCC notified police on Wednesday that Kolo and another inmate, 36-year-old Joshua Preston of Lihue, had escaped from the facility.
KPD captured Preston at Wailua Golf Course after a roughly four-hour search that day. He was arrested for escape, and was transferred on Thursday back to the custody of DPS.
