ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Panathinaikos beat defending champion Olympiakos 1-0 in the Greek league thanks to a second-half goal by Lucas Villafanez on Saturday.
Guillermo Molins and Robin Lod exchanged passes inside the area, on the left side, and five Olympiakos players rushed to defend against them. Lod squared the ball to an unmarked Villafanez on the other side and he tapped it into the empty net.
Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlahodimos frustrated Olympiakos’ efforts to equalize.
Olympiakos is among four teams, including Levadiakos which lost at Larissa 1-0, that are two points adrift from league-leading Atromitos and one from second-placed PAOK.
Panathinaikos and Giannena, which beat Kerkyra 2-1, are a further point behind.
Atromitos travels to Xanthi on Sunday, and PAOK hosts Asteras on Monday.
