JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi High School Activities Association has revoked Loyd Star’s baseball state championship from last season because ineligible players participated.
The association’s executive director, Don Hinton, says the Class 2A title will now be awarded to East Union, which lost in the finals to Loyd Star.
The Clarion-Ledger reports the MHSAA required Loyd Star’s administration to investigate after receiving an anonymous tip. Loyd Star then discovered ineligible players participated in its baseball, girls basketball, boys basketball, football and fast-pitch softball teams.
Hinton said Thursday that in total, six players were ruled ineligible because all of them lived outside the school district. Three of those six were baseball players.
Loyd Star will be placed on disciplinary probation for one calendar year and must pay a $250 fine per sport involved.
