DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Larry Brihm Jr. threw for 262 yards and a score and reliever Akevious Williams threw the go-ahead touchdown with 3:10 remaining to lift Bethune-Cookman past Hampton 24-21 on Saturday.
Sam Marc intercepted a Delmon Williams’ pass and Adam Brown missed a game-tying 29-yard field goal attempt as time expired on Hampton’s final two drives.
On the Wildcats’ game-winning drive, Brihm was 5-for-6 passing for 53 yards and picked up a key first down with an 11-yard run. After driving Bethune-Cookman (4-4, 3-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to Hampton’s 7-yard line, on fourth-and-goal, Akevious Williams, who replaced Brihm periodically, entered and threw a touchdown to Jawill Davis.
Delmon Williams gave Hampton (5-3, 4-1) the lead with an 8-yard scoring run with 3:46 left in the third quarter.
Bethune Cookman led 14-0 early when Brihm, who was 19 of 29 for 262 yards, threw 15 yards to Frank Brown and Tupac Isme had a 16-yard scoring run. Isme had two receptions for 122 yards.
Delmon Williams led the Pirates with 197 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception.
