Grant should fund environmental studies
I read with interest the story about DuPont Pioneer’s grants to the Department of Education. Looking at the various proposals for which the grant money was approved, it is evident that none has anything to do with environmental studies.
The next time any of our chemical companies offer grants to our schools, I would love to see all the principals unanimously submit proposals that in some way deal with the environment — for instance, equipment to measure pesticide residue near schools and elsewhere in our communities, or to monitor the health of organisms (including humans) near such usage, including downstream and in nearby ocean waters.
And if any of our schools do not even offer an environmental studies program, then the grant proposal could request funds to establish one.
I would be very interested to see the chemical companies’ response!
