LIHUE — The Rev. Dr. Yvette Flunder, bishop of the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries and founding senior pastor of City of Refuge United Church of Christ in Oakland, California, will offer the next Malcolm Miner Memorial Lecture, “Beyond the Either/Or God,” at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael & All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Lihue.
The event is free to the public.
Flunder has raised her voice for justice from the church house to the White House and steps of the Supreme Court. She is a powerful prophetic preacher, educator and justice advocate, as well as a renowned gospel singer and author.
She founded Ark of Refuge, Inc., to provide housing, services and training for persons affected by HIV/AIDS in the Bay Area, across the U.S. and in three African nations.
The Malcolm Miner Memorial Lecture provides lectures which connect faith, learning and life. It was established in memory of the Rev. Malcolm Miner (1920-2012), who was priest associate of St. Michael. He was known for his healing touch, affirming laugh and inclusive theology.
Miner is the author of three books on healing.
