It is Friday — the final day of the Billy Tees Hawaii High School Athletic Association 2017 bowling championships (for those who wondered what the crowd was at Kauai Bowl) — how is Pearl City (Coach Tony Madrona still remembers the last state tournament here on Kauai) doing? The Chargers took both the boys and girls titles that year.
St. Francis coach Kevin Gusman got to come home, and brought over Kamehameha School-Kapalama coach Mike Yamamoto (how many of you knew his grandfather owned Yamamoto Store, now a Crazy Shirt, in Koloa?).
Eric Nordmeier is looking for Hanapepe Pop Warner Association players who played under Coach Dick Ueoka between 1964 through 1967 for a reunion with Coach on Dec. 3 (Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. proclaimed it Dick Ueoka Day in 2016!) at the Lihue Neighborhood Center from 4:30 p.m.
OK, it’s time for the Honolulu Marathon HHSAA cross country championships at Island School (are you ready, Coach Sean Magoun?)…wow! Two high school state events, back-to-back! Good luck to all the runners!
Then, it’s off to check out the free pumpkins (Josh Uyehara of Hartung Bros. — he was at the Hawaii Farm Bureau convention (Megan Kono even got some opihi, and Jan Luka was thrilled to get some Salt Pond salt] said it was a fun project to do).
Great job to Brian Miyamoto and all his farm bureau crew on a great convention where Gov. David Ige got to drop in.
