HANALEI — Brown water advisories have been issued for the east coast of Kauai as well as Hanalei Bay and Ha’ena Beach Park.
Thursday, the state Department of Health issued a water quality advisory for high levels of bacteria in the water at Ha’ena Beach. State standards for the bacteria enterococci is 130 enterococci per 100 mL. Levels at Ha’ena Beach were reported at 364 per 100 mL. That measurement was taken during routine beach monitoring.
The advisory for this beach is posted because testing for enterococci indicate that potentially harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa, or parasites may be present in the water.
DOH issued a brown water advisory on Tuesday for Kauai’s east coast due to heavy rains. The advisory is still in effect.
Wednesday, DOH issued a brown water advisory for Hanalei Bay, also due to heavy rains. That advisory is still in effect as well.
